Maruti insists on using smart and sensible second-generation Celerio scripts. Manufacturing: Maruti Suzuki Model: Celerio What is this? The second-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio is the most fuel-efficient gasoline car in India. In the era of low attention span and high fuel prices, the introduction of this line should be maintained. Now that you are interested, here is more information about the latest Celerio. Its exterior and interior are new, it is built on a new platform and powered by a new engine. As before, there are manual and AMT options (the transmission type initially introduced in India), and the price of the mid-size hatchback ranges from 499 thousand rupees to 694,000 rupees (former Indian showroom). What is it like outside? Let me talk about the first thing first. There is no visual connection between the old and new Celerios. Although the appearance of the original version is average, the new version is more cheerful. It has a round shape and actually looks better in metal than in pictures. This is not a classic and handsome car, but the new Celerio definitely has more presence than the old one. A slightly larger size (55 mm wide) also helps to achieve this goal. The curved back-sweeping headlights and the oval grille bisected by chrome strips give Celerio a lovely face, while the black plastic surround of the fog lamps and air dam adds a sense of sportiness to the exterior. On the sides, you will notice the fairly thick A and C pillars, the traditional greenhouse, and the soft contours of the doors and wheel arches. The top models use 15-inch alloy wheels, and they will definitely do their part to help maintain this attitude. Sadly, the old models of high-quality pull-type door handles have given way to poor-quality lift-type door handles. Although the new Celerio gained keyless entry, the location of the request sensor on the door made it seem like an afterthought. There is a good flow from the shoulders to the taillights, and the Celerio tail continues the curvaceous theme. Under the appearance, Celerio has a lot in common with the latest Maruti hatchback. It is built on Suzuki's Heartect platform and maintains the tradition with its front MacPherson struts and rear torsion beam suspension arrangement. What does the inside look like? Like the exterior, the interior of the new Celerio is more flavorful. The winged appearance of the instrument panel is very stylish, the 7-inch touch screen is highlighted as it should be, and some digital instruments of Wagon R also increase the internal appearance. The cabin certainly looks more upscale than the old car. It is also very practical, with door pockets and cup holders in the front, and a large recess in the center console for cell phones and wallets. Fumbling around, you will find that the quality does not make a big leap. Of course, there is a nice textured finish on the top of the dashboard, but hard plastic makes up most of the cabin. Celerio is not a tall car, but getting in and out is very easy. Drivers will also appreciate the height adjustment function of their seats. Like the earlier Celerio, the front seats use one-piece backrests with integrated headrests, which score high enough in terms of comfort. Frontal visibility is good, but the relatively thick A-pillar does allow us to observe it at the intersection. What you need to get used to is the position of the windows and door switches. The door lock/unlock and front power window controls are located on the center console, not on the doors. Rear passengers must also touch the rear window controls located between the front seats. The comfort of the rear seats is good, but not very good. The large windows provide a good view, even for tall passengers, there is enough knee room, and the seats are well cushioned. The problem is that the seat’s integrated fixed headrests are too small to provide any real head (and whiplash) support for taller passengers, and their low and reclining positions make them uncomfortable. The three people sitting side by side are also very crowded. Where Celerio has taken a big step is the luggage space. The 313-liter suitcase can easily accommodate two large suitcases and two carry-on luggage. If you need more space, you can also choose to fold the 60:40 split rear seat backrest. You need to load your luggage carefully because the lips are high and not so wide. What are the characteristics? Celerio offers four decorations, namely LXI, VXI, ZXI and ZXI+. The feature here is the top ZXI+ with many functions. There are keyless entry, button activation, driver's seat height adjustment, power adjustment of the rearview mirror, audio control installed on the steering wheel, and front and rear power windows. The infotainment function is handled by Maruti's Smartplay unit, which includes a 7-inch touch screen. The screen is good enough to use, and it can provide Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connections well. However, what is missing is a reversing camera, which can help better justify the relatively high price of this model. Although automatic climate control is not on the feature list, we did find that the air conditioner can cool the cabin very well. In terms of safety equipment, Celerio is equipped with dual front airbags, ABS, front seat belt reminders and rear parking sensors as standard equipment, and hill start assist is part of the AMT version of the kit. A higher specification model adds a rear wiper and defogger. On this issue, although Celerio complies with the latest Indian safety regulations, it has not yet been tested by Global NCAP. What is it like to drive? Powered by a new engine and built on a new platform, you would expect Celerio to have a very different driving experience, right? But the problem is that it is not. This is not necessarily a bad thing, because it was a friendly car at first. Celerio debuted the Suzuki K10C Dualjet engine in India. The familiar K10 in the name tells you that it is a three-cylinder 1.0-liter engine, while the new Dualjet means that each cylinder uses two injectors. Each intake port has an injector, which mixes fuel and air better, thereby increasing efficiency. Idle start/stop is also a standard configuration, which helps to maximize economy. The most efficient VXI AMT in Celerios was rated as 26.68kpl in economic data. The ZXI MT used with us has a figure of 24.97kpl. The difference in numbers may be due to different tire sizes and weights. In terms of power and torque, the 67hp and 89Nm units of the new engine are actually 1hp and 1Nm lower than the old Celerio units. The power of the engine may not be great, but its output mode is very flattering. In the rev band, there is a clean power. Although not as lively as the open-minded Swift, the performance in the town is actually quite good. There are no flat spots or hiccups during the delivery process, you will love the smoothness of Celerio's driving through town. Idle start/stop is also very effective. After stopping for a long enough time, the system will shut down the engine. Depress the clutch to bring the device back to life. The system responds quickly and will not make you guess again like similar devices on other cars. The problem is that when the engine is turned off, the air conditioner will also be turned off, leaving only the blower; it is not ideal on a hot day. You can choose to turn off the idle start/stop intervention via the button. Celerio will happily keep up with the pace of city traffic and can easily reach highway speeds, but on open roads you must plan to overtake. On its own, a five-speed manual transmission connected to a light clutch does not require much effort. Celerio AMT is also a pretty good choice for those who don't want to have trouble changing gears at all. In most cases, shifts are timely, and the typical AMT nod or pause between shifts is well controlled. It's still not as smooth as a torque converter or CVT automatic transmission, but AMT must have come a long way since the first type on the original Celerio. You can also manually control it through the stylish gear lever. The system responds well to manual input, but it is best to use an easy-going driving style. If your driving is mainly in a low-speed city environment, then you will like Celerio's friendly courtesy. Its turning radius is small, it is easy to park, and the suspension can also absorb bumps well. At higher speeds, Celerio feels very reliable, although the suspension does hit potholes. The handling is not exciting, but the car feels very calm, and so is it. Still complaining is the lifeless steering. Of course, it is easy to spin, but it cannot fully self-center, so you must always hold the steering wheel firmly. Should you buy one? Celerio is priced between 499,000 rupees and 694,000 rupees (ex-showroom, Delhi), competing with Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro and Datsun Go. Although the mid-spec version makes most of the sales score high in value, the price of the top version is somewhat expensive. The lower cost of Wagon R with a larger and more powerful 1.2-liter engine does not help. The new Celerio may not be a revolutionary product in any way, but it is undeniable that it provides the needs of most typical urban buyers. It's easy to drive and spacious, and the label of India's most fuel-efficient car is certainly an attraction in itself. This is not a car that will pull your heartstrings, but like the old models, it is still a cool choice for city cars.
